Royal Travels NewsThe main objectives of the agreement include expanding bilateral tourism ties, exchanging information and data related to tourism and encouraging cooperation between tour operators and tourism stakeholders including hotel owners. “Religious tourism in the form of Buddhist heritage sites is a great attraction for Japanese tourists to India,” tourism secretary Parvez Dewan said in a statement. “Japanese tourists have been availing visa-on-arrival in a major way and the highest number of visas-on-arrival were issued to the tourists from Japan during 2013, as in previous years.” Some 6,448 Japanese tourists availed of India’s visa-on-arrival scheme in 2013. In the year, India received 220,000 tourists from Japan, some 3.34% of the total foreign tourist arrivals.
